Gerrit holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, and a PhD in cell and molecular biology, with a focus on lung inflammation in cystic fibrosis. After working across research centers in Germany, the Netherlands and the US, Gerrit joined BMC in 2019 as an Editor forGenome Medicinewhere he handled content in areas such as immunology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, public health and clinical diagnostics. In 2022, Gerrit launchedBMC Global and Public Healthas Chief Editor.
